Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center and Equinox Discussing Potential Merger

We are excited to announce that our two human services organizations are exploring the possibility of a merger.  This discussion evolved organically from our years of collaboration with Whitney Young Jr. Health Center.

For example, Whitney Young Health has provided HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling at select Equinox locations for the past seven years, and its mobile health unit provides medical and dental services to youth residing in Equinox’s transitional living program for homeless youth. The two organizations are also working on opening a primary care and prompt care clinic, operated by Whitney Young Health, along with an Equinox satellite mental health clinic offering individual and group therapy and other support services at a new mixed-use facility located at 526 Central Ave. in Albany to open in August.

The motivation behind exploring a potential merger is our mutual, mission-driven interest in better meeting the many needs of the individuals we serve and our complementary services. Organizations such as ours, that serve low-income, at-risk clients and patients, are experiencing funding and budgetary constraints at every level. Exploring opportunities to maximize efficiency to provide the greatest possible benefit to clients and the community is responsible fiscal stewardship.

We believe this is an exciting time and positive opportunity for us.  You, our supporters and advocates, are an essential part of our Equinox team and we value your perspective as we continue this exploration. We will keep you updated throughout our due diligence process, and anticipate a decision by our respective boards about whether to proceed with a merger by the end of June.

Please contact Christina Rajotte, our Director of Development & Marketing, at crajotte@equinoxinc.org with any questions or feedback.

Thank you for embracing our mission.
