Volunteer

Volunteers have been at the heart of the Equinox community since we first opened our doors. We rely on that generous spirit of selfless giving and community engagement to fulfill our tradition of people helping people every day.

If you are looking for a rewarding and meaningful way to give of your time, we are always looking for volunteers to help!

Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner

Help with preparation or delivery of 10,000 meals for our Capital Region neighbors who are homebound, lonely, or in difficult circumstances. Email thotline@equinoxinc.org or call our Thanksgiving Hotline at (518) 434-0131 in October to see how you can get involved.

Mentoring

Journey (youth ages 13-17) and New Pathways (youth ages 18-24) Programs, which use a group mentoring approach, empower at-risk young people to make positive choices and reach their potential. Running from September through June, Journey Mentors work with students two Saturdays a month and New Pathways Mentors work with students every Monday throughout the school year and become trusted role models for the mentees.

Community Service Projects

Welcome Bags - The Equinox Youth Outreach Center (YOC), an after school drop-in center located in Albany's highest needs neighborhood, offers a safe and engaging environment for youth ages 13-21. Conducting a drive to collect donated hygiene items and making up the gift bags provides comfort to our youth.

Goodnight Bags - Imagine having to leave your home to get away from someone who is abusive and violent.  The Equinox Domestic Violence Shelter is a safe haven for men, women and their children.  Help create goodnight bags to make a child's stay as "homey" as possible.  Include new items such as small blankets, flashlights, sketch pads, color pencils, crayons and small stuffed animals.

Welcome Baskets - The Transitional Living Program provides supervised apartment living for homeless youth, ages 16-21, to help make a successful transition to life on their own. Help us welcome our residents to their new apartments by conducting a drive to collect donated twin sheet sets, blankets, pillows, laundry detergent, and other items.

Holiday Gift Drive - In December we collect toys, clothing, and other gifts for youth, and for individuals and families in our Domestic Violence Shelter and Programs.
