This group mentoring program provides a safe and enriching place for teens 13 to 18 who have few positive options in the community. Dedicated adult mentors from the community meet with participants for enriching group activities twice a month at Equinox.
Activities promote values such as academic appreciation, community service, good health, higher education and job opportunity awareness, and skills building. Teens also meet individually with their mentors. Twice a year, the entire group takes a special trip, such as seeing a Broadway musical or going white water rafting in the Adirondacks.
New Pathways recognizes that the transition from adolescence to adulthood is especially challenging for young adults (18 to 24) who have issues that interfere with their path to independence.
New Pathways provides critical support and education to help youth make this important transition with the skills and confidence to succeed as contributing members of society. Adult volunteers from the community are an integral part of the program and participate in all weekly activities. Sessions address topics such as education, employment, relationships, domestic violence, health, parenting, positive socialization, and support systems.
New Pathways participants learn essential life skills from how to set short- and long-term goals, to getting an ID card, to cooking a meal, to setting boundaries with friends and family.
