problems of substance abuse, homelessness, domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS. Youth Services
Share your special gifts/talents or simply spend time with youth – be a positive role model Youth Outreach Center
- Assist teenage youth with their homework and/or specific academic subject areas after school on a regular basis.
- Help with one or more of a wide range of activities including: arts & crafts, cooking, computer usage, resume preparation, basic job seeking skill building.
Youth Shelter
- Supervise the use of the computer in the Tutor Office.
- Accompany youth to and from recreational events.
- Assist with household maintenance needs at the Youth Shelter, which may include assisting with laundry, restocking bathrooms, cleaning discharged residents rooms and other
small cleaning or maintenance tasks.
- Assist with clerical duties including: answering the telephones and door, signing residents in and out, typing and filing.
- Pick up food orders from the Regional Food Bank and organize shelter food pantry.
- Interact with residents not attending school:
transport to the Outreach Center, supervise them
while at the Outreach Center.
- Assist with gardening/lawn maintenance.
Independent Living Program
- Assist with buying food at the Regional Food Bank and organizing pantry ~ Tuesdays, twice monthly.
Domestic Violence Services If you have a special skill, share it with our adult or child clients. It could be yoga,
gardening, dancing, art, singing, home repair…the possibilities are endless!
Domestic Violence Shelter
- Assist and interact with adult and child residents of the shelter, working with residential counselors ~ weekday and weekend hours available, morning, afternoon and evening.
- Assist with office tasks including: phone reception, copying and filing.
- Assist facilities manager with donation pick ups and organizing.
- Help resident children with schoolwork. Assist children in the development of good learning habits.
- Spend recreational time with resident children. This may include reading, playing games or sports and taking children to recreational events.
- Assist with childcare during adult groups ~ M, T, W 7:00pm-8:30pm
- Assist with household maintenance needs at the Youth Shelter, which may include assisting with
laundry, restocking bathrooms, cleaning discharged residents rooms and other small cleaning or maintenance tasks.
- Pick up food orders from the Regional Food Bank and organize shelter food pantry.
- Transport residents from the Domestic Violence Shelter to 95 Central to the Equinox medical exam night on Thursday evenings. An Equinox vehicle will be used.
- Help shelter residents move into their own apartments.
Domestic Violence Outreach Services
- Provide advocacy, support, information and accompaniment to victims seeking orders of protection from Family and criminal court ~ day and evening hours available.
- Be a support for clients living in the community ~ give them a ride, share fun things to do, be a pal.
Special Events
- Help is needed from September through November with both the organization and production of our annual Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner.
- Volunteers are also needed to participate in the annual Freihofer Community Walk on May 31,
2008 benefiting many area non-profit agencies including Equinox, and the AIDS Walk which takes place in September.
