All of us have experienced some darkness, pain or loss in our lives. It is part of being alive.
Many of us are fortunate to have families, friends and faith to help us find the strength to keep the challenges in perspective, to maintain the balance of dark and light.
But there are many people in our community who, for a wide variety of reasons, may not have or be aware of the support systems that can help them through the tough times.
Equinox exists for them.
Equinox provides assistance in a safe and supportive environment to individuals and families to help them find
the resources within themselves to grow and to make positive and lasting changes in their lives and within their communities.
If there is one word that is at the heart of everything we do at Equinox, it would be community. From our earliest
years, we have served those individuals who have become alienated from the community with the goal of
helping them reconnect. When we learn of human needs that are not being addressed by the traditional community service system, Equinox seeks to fill the cracks.
In fact, Equinox continues to initiate new and innovative responses to community needs as they emerge. In the
past year, we began to offer services to immigrant, disabled, and elderly victims of domestic violence. We also
recognized the economic challenges our clients faced in maintaining their independence after leaving our shelter
programs. In response, Equinox initiated long term services to assist clients while they establish themselves as
independent, contributing members of our community. Our counseling center, the original program of Equinox,
continues to enhance its services to engage hard to reach clients and keep them in treatment.
Our achievements have only been possible due to the involvement and support of a caring community. This
support is never more evident than on Thanksgiving Day when almost 3500 volunteers come together to
prepare, package, deliver or serve more than 8400 traditional meals to our hungry, homeless, or homebound neighbors.
As we celebrate forty years of service we salute our founders, supporters, staff and the thousands of volunteers
who have worked with us through the years. And we look to all our friends, old and new, to help us further our
mission of service to the Capital Region by supporting the Equinox Endowmen Campaign. We can all take part in strengthening our community, one life at a time.
